MY THOUGHTS

I’m so glad I didn’t put this series aside after I wasn’t impressed with the first book. The second book is much better.

The Winner’s Curse was heavy on the romance, in the second book Arin and Kestrel’s love story fades to the background. Instead we get political intrigues, conspiracy and unexpected twists. This book is darker; there is a lot of tension and cruelty. Both Kestrel and Arin have to make hard decisions (and readers alongside with them). Marie Rutkoski wrote such complex multidimensional characters. And this book was filled with a promise of heartbreak just behind the corner. Also this was such a thought provoking book that lingered for a long time after I finished it.

My thoughts about the audiobook:

Justine Eyre won me over in the second audiobook. I can’t imagine another voice for these characters. So I take back my previous complaints and recommend this audiobook.

  1. I’m glad you continued on despite your reservations with the first book. I mean, I’m biased as I loved the whole trilogy but I know not everyone did. The second book definitely expanded upon the actual story and plot rather than the romance like the first book and so it was a lot stronger. I hope you decide to listen/read to the conclusion. I thought it was a great trilogy and would love to hear your thoughts.
