Life update

You’ve probably noticed that I haven’t been around lately or maybe not. Anyway, where have I been?

I celebrated New Year and Christmas. Christmas in Russia is celebrated on January 7th. Yes, we celebrate Christmas after New Year. Weird, I know. The date is different because The Russian Orthodox Church celebrates religious holidays according to the Julian calendar. Russia uses the Gregorian calendar for secular purposes. In Russia New Year celebrations are big, while Christmas is more religious and smaller holiday.

Christmas and New Year holidays in Russia last from January 1st to January 10th. We visited our friends on Holidays and spent wonderful ten days in the countryside. We had a lot of winter fun. Snowball fights, sledding, making a snowman… I didn’t plan to blog during Holidays; I wanted to step down and have some quality family time. I planned to read, but for some reason I haven’t done any reading. I tried a couple of books, but I just wasn’t feeling it.

However I listened to audiobooks. I started Edge series by Ilona Andrews; and I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m obsessed. I haven’t read anything by this team before. A lot of my friends are fans of Ilona Andrews and they constantly pushed their books my way. I wish I listened. I’m currently listening to the third book, and it looks like I end up binge listening to the whole series. These audiobooks are narrated by Renee Raudman and she is amazing.

I’ve been really awful with answering comments on my blog lately. I’m so sorry about it. Thank you for stopping by and reading my posts. Your comments make my day.

I noticed that when I’m limited in time I abandon comments on my blog and only visit my friend’s blogs. I’m curious what would you prefer: a visit to your blog and my comment on your post or an answer to your comment on my blog? (if I don’t have time to do both)

Now I’m slowly easing back into blogging. I want to answer comments on my blog, but it will probably take me some time. And I can’t wait to visit your blogs and see what you’ve been up to.

  1. I hope you’ve had the best time celebrating the holidays! <3 Missed you Ksenia. I love that you're starting/enjoying Ilona Andrew's books. I just discovered her last year and ALL her books have been a hit with me. You should really check out the Kate Daniels series when you finish up with the Edge series! Glad to see you're back. Whatever you have time with, you should do – whether it's commenting back or just commenting on blogs.

  2. It sounds like you had a very fun but busy holiday, Ksenia! Ilona Andrews’ books are amaaaaazing! Renee Raudman is a fantastic narrator too; have you tried Burn For Me by the duo yet? You might like that one a lot too since it has a heavy focus on romance, just like the Edge books.

Personally, I prefer visits to my blog unless there’s a really active conversation going on in your comments (like a discussion post or something).

  3. Huh, I didn’t know Russia kept to a different calendar but that’s really cool that you took time off to spend time with your family for the holidays, everyone does it. It always makes you feel a bit more refreshed for the holidays as well. I always feel more motivated to blog when I say I’m taking a break, anyway. Is that just me?

I’m glad you’re liking the Edge series by Ilona Andrews, I’m a big fan of that writing duo although I’ve only read 2 books in the Edge series I’m going to have to remedy this and read them all. They write such good books and I need to catch up with them.

Honestly, I think it’s always nicer to visit others blogs because you know people are more likely to respond to those… I know I like seeing people have stopped by to visit, I know that can be a bit more time consuming reading and then commenting, though. I know I’m a week behind on all my blog visiting it’s one of those things that always ends up getting forgotten a bit as it’s so time consuming!

  4. I’m so glad you are back and doing well and had a nice time with family! It has been crazy for a lot of us I think but it’s good for things to get back to normal so to speak in the blogsphere as well. 😉
