This whole grim reaper thing should have come with a manual.
Or a diagram of some kind.
A flow chart would have been nice.
Charley Davidson is a part-time private investigator and full-time grim reaper. Meaning, she sees dead people. Really. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (like murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely. But what does he want with Charley? And why can’t she seem to resist him? And what does she have to lose by giving in?
With scorching-hot tension and high-octane humor, First Grave on the Right is your signpost to paranormal suspense of the highest order.
I’m so glad I finally started this series! It was a very addictive and entertaining read. There was constantly smile on my face and I laughed out loud not once (it was especially awkward when I was in public).
I think your enjoyment of this book would depend on your view of the main character Charley Davidson. If you clicked with her (like I did), you would love this story. First Grave on the Right reminded me of How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper, another funny paranormal book, where it’s all was about the heroine.
Charley was an amazing character. Charismatic, strong, smart and brave. It’s hard not to fell in love with her. She also had a great sense of humor. Her comments, sarcastic remarks and jokes totally made the book for me.
Humor plays a big role in this book. If you want to have a good laugh, you should definitely pick it up. All those hilarious T-shirt phrases.
This book is paranormal, and there is a mystery to solve. Charley Davidson is a grim reaper. Since she was a little girl she can see dead people, who has unfinished business, mostly they need to find their killers. So Charley works as a private investigator and helps to solve murders, much to her cop uncle Bob’s enjoyment.
To tell the truth the murder aspect of the book didn’t really mattered to me. For me it was all about Charley. Mystery was just a pleasant addition.
While I expected this book to be funny, I didn’t expect it to be steamy. And steamy it was. The scenes between Charley and Reyes were so sensual. They reminded me of Fever series by Karen Marie Moning.
My thoughts about the audio:
The audiobook was amazing. Rachel from Reader’s Den told me not once that Lorelei King was her favorite narrator. In favorite audiobooks post she mentioned it again. And now I can see why. Lorelei King is a talented narrator. It was like Charley came to life. I highly recommend the audiobook, and I definitely want to check out Lorelei King’s backlist.
First Grave on the Right was a light, funny and very entertaining story. I enjoyed it a lot. If you’re looking for a book which made you happy and put a smile on your face, look no further.
